Thank you everyone who attended the Rally Against Wage Theft on 30 November.
We had a fabulous turnout of casual, academic, and professional staff who came together to demand that Deakin to pay back stolen wages and to pay all staff for every hour that they work.
Audrey Statham, casual representative for the Deakin Branch of the NTEU had this to say:
The wage theft rally at Burwood campus on 3 Dec was a visible (and loud!) collective act, which sent a clear message to the University that casuals demand to be heard and to be paid fairly for all hours worked! It was also a chance for NTEU members at Deakin and allies to connect with each other and occupy space that we’ve carved out for ourselves as opposed to the diminished and diminishing space that Deakin management imposes on staff. Attendees told us they were inspired by the sense of solidarity on the day! Importantly, casual and ongoing members came away feeling hopeful that we can imagine a better future for all Deakin members and, together, carry out hopeful action in this round of enterprise bargaining to make that change happen.

You can see lots more photos and videos of the rally on Twitter.
We are due to appear at Fair Work in the New Year.
In solidarity,
